Jim Flynn has spent his entire professional career working in hotels, working for hotel companies and working for hotel owners. 


Jim began his hospitality career working as a busboy in a restaurant, one he eventually ended up managing. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration.


He spent the first phase of his career developing his experience and skills as a hotelier at major urban Omni Hotels in Philadelphia, Boston and New York City. 


Jim was then fortunate to be a founding member of the Beacon Hotel Corporation. With Beacon, he held senior corporate positions through the acquisitions of Guest Quarters Suite Hotels, Pickett Suite Hotels, Doubletree Hotels Corporation, Red Lion Hotels, Harrison Conference Centers and Promus Hotel Corporation. When Hilton purchased the company, Jim was the Managing Director of the Boston Harbor Hotel and a Vice President of Operations overseeing the University Hotels and Conference Center portfolio. 


  • During his sixteen years with the company, he opened fourteen hotels, provided due diligence on the chain acquisitions and was a member of the senior executive committee. 
  • As the Senior Vice President of Food & Beverage, he oversaw the restaurants, bars and catering facilitates for 110 hotels. 
  • As the Senior Vice President of Franchise Services, he worked with 55 franchised properties to manage owner relations, operational resources, marketing, quality standards and brand compliance.  
  • As the Senior Vice President of Operations, he was responsible for 50 hotels overseeing owner relations, daily operations, brand marketing strategy, product enhancements, guest satisfaction and employee motivation. 


Jim then joined Starwood Hotels and Resort where he managed the Westin Waltham Hotel and the Boston Park Plaza Hotel.


For the next stage of his career, he partnered with Tom Engel as the Senior Managing Director of the T.R.ENGEL Group, a lodging real estate advisory company, working exclusively for hotel owners and institutional investors. For the next sixteen years, he provided asset management, advisory services and project management technical services at over 115 hotels.


  • Delivered the asset management of 40 hotels, including luxury, full service, select service, urban and resort assets. 
  • Executed 75 advisory assignments including investment underwriting, asset performance evaluation, market analysis, distressed hotel recovery and new build hotel feasibility. 
  • Opened two hotels in Chicago and Minneapolis, arranged hospitality advice and cash management to receivers and special servicers of hotels and provided expert witness testimony.
